Ciao! On our last trip to Italy, Bob and Alek met with Mario Giribaldi, a third generation winemaker and his daughter Alessandra.  They arrived at the beautiful Cantina after an escapade through the small windy roads of Rodello to taste through their superb line of wines.  After Bob and Alek tasted the entire line of wines they were very impressed; not only with the superb quality but also the outstanding value that the wines provided for their respective classification.

Our newest import from Italy, Azienda Giribaldi is from Rodello in the Piedmont region, founded in the 20th century and has been making wine for three generations.  Mario Giribaldi, the current owner and winemaker has taken it upon himself to constantly improve the quality of his wines, from selecting different clones of the classic Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo grapes in order to get ideal agronomic and oenological types to produce the best fruit he could. Mario has also modernized his vineyard management operation to produce organically grown grapes!  This extensive project started in 2001 with 2004 being the first certified released organic vintage!  Mario made us very aware of the ecological and health benefits from using organic methods in the vineyards. Consumers are more and more concerned about the use of chemical products in agriculture and in the food industry and they have given Mario a big input to this new endeavor.

Langhe Arneis "Vigna della Porta" 2006
Organically Grown and Certified

This organic white from Rodello is pure golden yellow in color. Intense floral aromatics escape from the glass along with notes of white and wild flowers. On the palate sumptuous flavors of peach, and hints of melon and passion fruit.  Full-bodied, harmonious and soft with a finish of golden apple and bread crusts.  Enjoy as an aperitif or with dishes such as roasted chicken or panko encrusted salmon.

Gavi "i Risi" 2006
Composed exclusively of Cortese, this straw yellow white has a full, fresh nose of ripe white peaches.  On the palate delicate apple fruit pleasantly mixes with hints of mint, grass and minerals. Full and round in the mouth, it finishes with a light acidity making it a pleasure to drink with an assortment of appetizers, shellfish and a range of white fish dishes, sole Florentine for instance.

Dolcetto d'Alba "Schiena del Crottino" 2006

Made from a single 1.85 hectare vineyard this Dolcetto has an intense ruby red color, with violet reflections. On the nose there is very prevalent aromatics of lavender with undertones of lush fruit such as cherries and blackberries. Full and structured in the body, which softly wraps the sweet flavors of raspberry, blueberry and licorice. The low yields of the grapes and the scrupulous attention during the wine making process gives this Dolcetto a beautiful concentration and softness on the finish.  Delicious by itself but tremendous with pasta bolignese or a grilled pork loin.

Langhe Nebbiolo "Conca d'Oro" 2005
The grapes for this 100% Nebbiolo come from the vineyard located in the area of Fontanaccia located in historical city of La Morra.  This intense ruby red colored wine with a brick tinge has a lovely and luscious perfume of fresh cherries, rose and vanilla. Full-bodied with harmonious flavors of black cherry, cinnamon and black licorice, there is an exceptional persistence on the palate.  This is a great way to enjoy the style of a Barolo or Barbaresco at half the price!  Great with duck or a grilled filet mignon.

Barbaresco DOCG 2004
This superb Barbaresco from the illustrious 2004 vintage in Piedmont, comes from a vineyard less than one hectare in the community of Neive, with an altitude 350 meters above sea level.  In the glass it is intensely ruby red color with a purplish hue.  This lucious red has a great nose of rose petals and underling spices and raspberries.  Well balanced with flavors of dried fruit, vanilla, leather and tobacco with a long, clean finish of minerals and herbs.  A perfect match for lamb chops, grilled sirloin or a variety of hard cheeses.
