Alek and Bob recently returned from Bordeaux after participating in the En Primeur 2003 tasting week sponsored annually by the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux. This was our first look at the results of the Bordeaux 2003 harvest, a vintage that will be remembered as one of the most unique vintages for Bordeaux and its wines in the entire history of this legendary region.
Bordeaux seems to have more than survived what has turned out to be one of its hottest vintages ever! With strong ocean and river influences, large plantings of old vines, and varied soil compositions, several of the Bordeaux appellations weathered the heat quite well. In fact, the most successful wines of this vintage, some destined to be legends, have achieved extraordinary levels of concentration and intensity; some even surpass the high quality levels of their 2000s!
The Bordeaux 2003 Vintage is undeniably a vintage for wine lovers to purchase as Futures. The extraordinary quality of the individual red wine estates that have succeeded magnificently in this vintage is reason for any Bordeaux fan to want to have many of these potential legends in their cellars! Unfortunately, production this year is down and demand will be very strong for the sought after wines, especially those well known names that Robert Parker and Wine Spectator have already scored highly. Prices will unquestionably escalate quickly on these high scoring rarities.
Savvy wine drinkers that are looking for "good values" will find many "extraordinary values" in the expansive selection of well-made wines from the Northern Medoc. This is a treasure-trove vintage -- almost across the board -- for outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon based wines, especially in the appellations of Saint-Estephe, Pauillac, and Saint-Julien. Prices are fantastically low considering the quality! If you are looking for excellent wines that are inexpensive by comparison to the sought after favorites, check out our offers as these wines become available!
Those of you that are lovers of the lush, rich, and honeyed gems from the Barsac and Sauternes regions will not want to miss buying wines from this extraordinary vintage. The quality is top notch and the prices are extremely fair!
WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND PURCHASING WINES FROM THE BORDEAUX 2003 VINTAGE AS FUTURES.
However, this is not an across-the-board vintage; therefore, it is important to select the right wines. Alek and Bob tasted over 1,000 wines during their ten days in Bordeaux, many two and three times. We have only purchased and listed for sale those that we personally recommend. We will be happy to assist you with your selections; please don't hesitate to contact us. To be assured of not being disappointed in acquiring any of your favorite wines, let us know your interests and we will make sure you receive all opening offers the day of their release.
