Antonelli San Marco

AntonelliWe are pleased to introduce to you our newest direct import from Italy, the legendary estate of Antonelli San Marco. Located in the beautiful vineyard region of Montefalco in Umbria and in the heart of one of Italy's greatest wine growing provinces, Antonelli San Marco has long been known for its historical position related to grape growing and wine production here. The Antonelli family purchased the estate more than 125 years ago and have pioneered the cultivation of the land to produce wines and extra virgin olive oil that are pure, elegant and are true to the tradition and harmony of the region. The estate is quite large covering 170 hectares, with 40 hectares (over 100 acres) planted with vines and 10 hectares (25 acres) planted with olive trees. We visited this splendid estate in November and were taken back by the absolute beauty that surrounded us; the rolling hills covered with vivid orange and red colors of the foliage on the Sagrantino vines. We met with Filippo Antonelli who took us around the estate and showed us the newly renovated winemaking facility and then tasted through his line of wines. We were utterly impressed with the quality and depth of his wines especially the two Sagrantino di Montefalco's that he produces!

These two wines are made of the same varietal, Sagrantino, but are produced and taste very different. Sagrantino is an indigenous grape of Montefalco that, can be produced as a dry table wine, or made into a dessert style wine, which is the traditional version, but much less produced today. These traditional Sagrantino di Montefalco's are truly some of the finest wines grown in all of Umbria and should not be passed up!

Antonelli Vineyards

The grapes that are selected for the Sagrantino di Montefalco Passito are dried naturally on cane trellises for up to 90 days with constant surveillance and the elimination of imperfect bunches when necessary. The wine made in this style is absolutely delicious, reminiscent of Vintage Port without any addition of alcohol.

Sagrantino di Montefalco

Deep ruby red in color with intense, full aromas of blackberry fruit, fruit jam, and cherry. Dry, warm but tannic, quite fresh, with decisive body. The extracted fruit content gives density, and robust flavors but it still retains an elegant complexity. The finish is persistent and balanced, with sweet fruit and chocolate. Excellent balance, outstanding wine! Flavorsome with red meat and game dishes, especially veal. Serve with stewed meats, hard salami, also accompanies mature hard cheeses.

Sagrantino di Montefalco Passito

PassitoThe aromas of this the intense, sweet red are filled with notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, and raspberry jam. Medium sweet, definitely warm with excellent persistence, full-bodied and dense on the palate, with structure and well-balanced tannin. Incredible finish from this indigenous Montefalco varietal! Serve with red fruit tarts, dry pastries, chocolate, and blue cheeses. This is a wine that will have you experiencing something new with each sip.

San Marco Extra Virgin Olive Oil

This excellent olive oil is organically grown from 25 acres in the heart of Umbria. The trees are hand picked and the production is 70% Moraiolo and 30% Frantoio. The olives are harvested mid to late October and pressed every 24 hours using traditional grindstones; the continual cold extraction process allows the outstanding freshness and complexity of the oil to be preserved. The oil is not filtered, which helps give the oil its deep complexity. Emerald green tending to yellow color, with fruity and grassy aromas, this medium-strong oil is slightly piquant. Very rich and complex, a great addition to any meal. We recommend drizzled on to salads, cooked vegetables, pasta, pizza, and anything else you can dream up, it is wonderful!

The organic cultivation of the olives is certified by the IMC. The use of chemical fertilizers and insecticides is prohibited.
